UNDERSTANDING THE AHFC ENERGY RATING SCALE
The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) rates home energy efficiency using an AkWarm energy model scale from 1 Star to 6 Stars. Traditional solid log homes rarely qualify above 3 or 4 Stars because solid wood has a relatively low R-value (R-1.25 per inch of wood thickness) and suffers from joint shrinkage gaps.
